Transition to College and Careers Pilot Project
The Nellie Mae Education Foundation, in partnership with the New England Literacy Resource Center, has released the Transition to College and Careers (TCC) Request for Proposals to provide additional educational opportunities to ESOL, Adult Diploma and GED program graduates through partnerships between ABE programs, postsecondary education institutions, and health care employers that enable students to enroll and succeed in college with the goal of accessing specific career pathways in health care services.
The New England Literacy Resource Center (NELRC) will assist the Foundation in selecting the successful grantees and provide them with technical assistance, training, and support for program implementation throughout the grant period. Planning grants of up to $10,000 will be awarded to 4-6 partnerships for the period from August - December, 2008. Partnerships that complete their proposed planning activities will be eligible for up to $80,000 to implement the pilot program from January - December, 2009.
The Foundation seeks organizations and institutions in the six New England states that provide Adult Basic Education, ESOL, GED or Diploma classes as a primary educational service and that also currently offer program elements that support adult learners transitioning to college. The collaborating college should have a history of coordinating activities with key health care services employers.
The deadline for proposals is 5:00 pm on June 16th, 2008. All proposals and attachments should be submitted electronically to TCC@worlded.org.
