SUMMARY:Beyond Resilience: Care Practices for Challenging Times
DESCRIPTION:Overview\nIn this session\, you will learn practices and tools for taking care of yourself and supporting colleagues and students during these challenging times. Self-care and collective care strategies and approaches will be shared and practiced.  \nAudience\nThis professional development activity/course is designed for:Any adult education professional who wants to learn ways to support themselves and others during challenging times \nDescription\nWe know change is a constant. However\, in the current moment\,  we’re experiencing higher levels of stress and trauma than typical—due to greater economic uncertainty\, political polarization\, and significant cuts to funding and staff that provide adult education and critical social support. In this 90-minute workshop\, led by the Corporation for a Skilled Workforce’s Trauma and Resilience at Work\, you will explore the science behind stress and trauma and learn strategies for caring for yourself\, your colleagues\, and your students. You will learn about and participate in systems of care that support collective wellbeing. \nSelf-care is often presented as a key strategy for navigating stress and uncertainty. With self-care\, the work is at the individual level. Collective care engages teams\, organizations\, and communities to share responsibility for each other’s mental and emotional health so that no one has to carry the weight alone.   \nBoth self-care and collective care are important\, and CSW will be sharing strategies and examples to strengthen both. There will be ample time to reflect\, experiment\, and begin creating your plans to build resilience within yourself\, colleagues\, students\, and workplaces so we can meet the moment and build a field where wellbeing is a shared value\, and not something an individual must do on their own. \nThis webinar is offered by the New England Literacy Resource Center (NELRC) in partnership with SABES. \nLearning Objectives\nUpon completion of this professional development activity/course\, you will be able to: \n\nDescribe self-care and collective care practices\nGet a basic introduction to the brain science of stress\, trauma\, and the role of care practices in supporting wellbeing\n\nBegin to plan an intentional self-care and collective care plan\nExplore ways to adopt collective care and resilience-building practices with colleagues and students to foster supportive\, responsive environments\n\nDate\n08/27/2025 – 11:00 am to 08/27/2025 – 12:30 pm \nClick here to register through NELRC.

SUMMARY:Digital Adult Training and Development Network (ATDN) TechCast
DESCRIPTION:The integration of technology has revolutionized professional development resources\, enhancing sessions with layers of additional content\, including links to articles\, websites\, and notably\, other presentations that used to be only available in person. With the ongoing trend of session recordings\, we are venturing into a new domain—podcasts. This session will delve into the factors that guided our creation of Digital ATDN‘s TechCast and examine how our new service has impacted other Digital ATDN services. Register at bit.ly/NELRC-5-17-24. \nPresenter: Jose Adorno \nJose Adorno is the Digital ATDN Coordinator at EdAdvance in Connecticut\, where he supports teachers in professional development\, focusing on digital literacy skills in the classroom. With over a decade of experience in Adult Education\, Jose has served in various roles centered on data and technology support. SUMMARY:CANCELLED -- Voter Education\, Registration\, and Action (VERA): Voting Ambassador Training
DESCRIPTION:This event has been cancelled. \nCome and learn about how creating a team of Voting Ambassadors gives your students a hands-on way to develop their leadership\, knowledge of civics\, and basic skills (including reading\, writing\, speaking\, and listening). Drawing from the materials in the Voter Education\, Registration\, and Action (VERA) campaign\, your students will learn about the history of voting\, its importance in determining our everyday lives\, and the steps involved in learning the issues\, registering\, and voting. Voting Ambassadors are non-partisan. They promote equity by supporting their peers to make their voices heard through voting and other ways of taking action. A student does not have to be a citizen to be a Voting Ambassador. Non-voters can still engage in elections by supporting their peers to register and vote! This workshop which is designed for the 2024 elections\, will give your program and your students an educational\, relevant\, and impactful pathway to civic engagement.

SUMMARY:Helping Your Students Identify\, Develop\, and Utilize Their (not so) Soft Skills with the Change Agent
DESCRIPTION:Adult Education students have strong transferable skills (aka\, soft skills). They just don’t know it yet! Time management\, communication\, and critical thinking skills are being cultivated daily by hard-working adult learners. Employers value and seek these crucial competencies. In this webinar\, we’ll share practical classroom activities that demonstrate simple ways to teach basic skills in a way that enables students to identify and amplify the transferable skills essential for employability. Participants will gain access to Change Agent stories that feature students using transferable skills. These stories hold up a mirror\, allowing student readers to see and embrace their own transferable skills. You will also receive ready-to-use packets of materials and Google docs that can be adapted for your own use. Register here.
